– The chit number you pick out will be your table number, based purely on your luck at that moment and has nothing to do with the time you arrive.
– One representative from each respective table can pick up 1 chit only and therefore also get allocated one table ONLY. He/she must be sitting in that specific table. He/she cannot pick up chits for another table for their family and friends.
EXCEPTION: During table selection, we would like to permit people from our community to select extra tables ONLY for non member guests who are NOT a part of our community to join in our celebrations. To clarify, selecting extra tables is only available in the case that an extra table is being selected for guests external to our community OR from overseas (from outside Madrid). Please make sure to fill in your guests full names, first name and last name (please do not label them as guest1, guest 2, etc.) The non member guests (external to our community) will pay non member ticket prices and their tickets will have to be paid at the time of ticket sales by the individual confirming their table.

 MESSAGE BY MR. KUNDAMAL H. SUKHWANI – PRESIDENT 1986 – 1989

Ladies & Gentlemen

Time has really flown. Looking at the Association’s growth and achievements over the years I am happy to say I was privileged to be the first President of our community even before the Association was legally registered in 1982. I recall I was the only Sindhi family in Madrid in 1962. It was only after a couple of years that a few families came to settle here. We were just a handful of Sindhis in Madrid for many years – and realizing the importance of keeping in touch with our own people and preserving our culture in a land so far away from our native land, we organized our own small gatherings and events in our homes with our children. When the community started growing considerably, the time came to form an identity for ourselves in this country. Along with a few of the other prominent members of our community, we registered ourselves as the Asociación India de Madrid (AIM) in 1982. Now with the passage of time more Sindhis have made Madrid their home and we have a strong contingent of over 250 families today, out of which we can proudly say approximately 220 of them are members of the Association. Thanks to the farsighted vision of the founding fathers and the initiatives taken by subsequent presidents to nurture the development and growth of the association, it has accomplished much.

The usefulness of any social organizations such as ours must be measured by not only what it does but what it aims to do for the community. I am especially happy now to note that under the present leadership of Mr. Kamal Fabiani the Association has procured its own piece of land to build our very own first cultural and social centre. This, I think is a commendable achievement in the history of the Association, as now we will have a fixed venue for our families to meet on regular basis and socialize on auspicious occasions. These activities will help to keep our community close-knit and also maintain our rich heritage and culture. Our members have thrown its full support for all the activities including the formalized membership system being implemented now. All this would not have been possible without the assistance and efforts put in by our current president Mr. Kamal Fabiani.

I am very honoured, as the most senior member of our community, and one of the founding fathers of the Association, to have been granted this opportunity to address you on the launching of the ISAOM website on its Silver Jubilee Celebration Year. Created by the vibrant youth of today, the web is indeed a remarkable and effective means to convey all the news and information regarding the Association. It is to the youth of this generation that the Association must look for future support and inspiration. Organizations that are adaptive and flexible stand the best chance of success.

I extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you on this special occasion of the Association’s Silver Jubilee. Above all I congratulate all our past presidents for the hard work and effort they have put in to make the Indian Association what it is today.

Thank you

God Bless.

President’s Message 2005 – 2008

MESSAGE BY MR. KAMAL FABIANI – PRESIDENT (2005-2008)

Dear Friends,

As the President of the Indian Sindhi Association of Madrid, ISAOM (earlier known as AIM), it is with great honour that I welcome you all to the launch of our very own website where from every corner of the globe you can be in touch with ISAOM and keep abreast of the current events unfolding at ISAOM, learn about its history, past happenings, benefits of membership, and the innumerable ways to incorporate in the Associations’ activities. In a world where change is the norm, it’s unbelievable the way computers have enhanced our lives.

But first, in this significant year, I would like to felicitate each one of you on the Silver Jubilee of our Association; ”HAPPY SILVER JUBILEE”!!! When the Indian Association was constituted and registered in 1982, its prime objective was to preserve our rich unique culture and tradition, in particular among the younger lot through social, cultural and educational progression.25 years since then, we can say with glimmer of pride and joy that ISAOM has all in all fulfilled or rather exceeded the expectations.

As rightly said, there is no substitute for experience and the knowledge I have acquired from my successful stint as the President of Indian Association (1996-2000), is by and large being productively implemented now to safeguard the interests of the community. It’s truly your confidence in my leadership, unequivocal support and help that has finally enabled us to accomplish our prolonged dream of building our own Cultural centre which will be dedicated whole heartedly to all the members of the Association. The cultural centre will be a common ground for everyone to meet and exchange views, and of course organize functions of any kind. Furthermore it will reinforce our cohesive society since lately the diverse activities being carried out have developed immensely. The Cultural centre will offer an ample parking for everyone’s convenience. I trust that this centre will herald a new era mainly for the future generations to come. I consider myself extremely privileged to be sitting at the helm whilst this mammoth project is being devised, built and enhanced.

A noteworthy feature which needs a special mention is that during the recent years we have been very fortunate to have visits from heads of state not only from India but from Spain as well. This is in fact an optimistic sign of India winning recognition globally today thus propelling us to work even harder if we wish to strive for excellence. As you are well aware, India clearly today is a force to reckon with.

I strongly believe that an Association of any kind however well conceived cannot succeed unless there is love, regard, co-operation and unity among its members. The key to the success of any organization is the participation of the members Therefore I urge all of you to become actively involved in the workings of the Association and collaborate in its activities. My earnest request to you is at regular intervals; spend a few minutes browsing through this site providing us with your valuable tips and suggestions. I will welcome your feedback and it will indeed be my pleasure to respond to your queries personally and promptly.

”GRATITUDE IS THE MOST EXQUISITE FORM OF COURTESY”

Taking a leaf from the above words, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the donors who have ardently supported me through their generous contributions towards the cultural centre and many other ventures such as Diwali, Mela, directory advertisements etc. Without their encouragement none of my endeavours would have ever been possible thus making my resolve even stronger. And I wish to say a THANK YOU to all the members of ISAOM for having faith in me by coming forward so readily whenever the need arose. I would also wish to salute the efforts of all the former Presidents for their impressive work in the past years.

One quality of my committee which has remained constant all this while is the continuous support and inspiration towards me and all my commitments. Undeniably, they have been instrumental in the success of the Associations’ initiatives. I simply cannot thank them enough and would like to acknowledge that their hard work and dedication has not diminished in any way all these years.

To conclude, I must admit that my primary aspiration is to consistently serve you better and genuinely hope that the forthcoming years will usher in a lot of happiness, joy, peace and prosperity to you all.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kamal Fabiani.

President of the Indian Sindhi Association of Madrid 2005 – 2008

President’s Message 2009 – 2012

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE ( 2009 – 2012)

Distinguished Members,

HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS!!! To each one of you as Madrid can now boast of having its own Sindhi cultural centre after a prolonged wait of 27 years. On this occasion, addressing you once again from this wonderful medium, I experience a great surge of joy and feel humbled by the honour bestowed on me of being re-elected with thumping majority, the president of ISAOM.

CULTURAL CENTRE

What was always envisioned by the Sindhi residents of Madrid has finally been translated into reality, i.e. possessing a Sindhi cultural centre in Madrid. The edifice of ISAOM CULTURAL CENTRE is indeed a picture of splendour and an embodiment of everyone’s hope and dream. I trust it must have met your expectations. The journey started as an unreal dream for all of us but it unlocked a code that revealed a secret that nothing is impossible and our very own cultural centre which comes into being now demonstrates just that. However, to conceive and shape up the entire project was by no means a small feat. Starting from the collection of the funds to the unforeseen legal hassles and subsequently to the budget going up by a few notches, it was a challenging task. Despite all this, with your resounding support we have achieved our goal; the ISAOM CULTURAL CENTRE has finally been realized. My sincerest gratitude to every member of the community!

The inauguration ceremony of the ISAOM CULTURAL CENTRE took place on the 5th of April 2009 by our beloved and revered Dada J.P.Vaswani whose gracious presence in Madrid after 2 decades was a perfect prelude to an official inauguration of the centre. It was a great opportunity to seek his divine blessings and bask in the sunshine of his peace, love and joy. Dada left the audiences totally mesmerized with his pearls of wisdom. An unforgettable experience! Million thanks to the committee and the volunteers who ensured the smooth functioning of the inaugural event.

2005-2008

The last four years during my tenure as the President, there has been a tremendous effort from the ISAOM committee to successfully organise various events besides Diwali parties. For instance: the silver jubilee cocktail with the launching of the directory and the mela. The overwhelming response in the above events reflects your desire to integrate in the community. More of such events could have been held by ISAOM but due to the high cost of the venues, it was not feasible to exhaust the resources. However, having a place of our own now gives us the option to organise any function henceforth at an affordable cost.

Another outstanding feature of this term was the annual membership fee which came into vigour from the year 2005.This was essential for the construction (in part) and for the upkeep of the centre now.

More than two years ago in 2006, http://www.isaom.com was launched although I believe it has not been updated as expected but I assure you it will be resumed soon to keep you posted on all the upcoming events happening at ISAOM.

2009……

ISAOM has taken a different approach of working now. Each committee member handles different departments and has formed its own parallel sub-committee comprising of 6-12 persons. There was an urgent need to do this as the work-load has increased four-fold due to the cultural centre. Moreover, in this way we get the innovative ideas of the community members and their involvement in the organisation.

Once we get the ”licencia de apertura” (operating licence) for the cultural centre from the town hall, it will be available for weddings, banquets and the like. Charges will differ for ISAOM members, non-members and non-Indians. This strategy will take care of the daily maintenance of the centre and the repayment of the mortgage loan of twenty years. It is about time we reap rich rewards of our endeavour and utilize the cultural centre to its maximum. The cultural centre which is a milestone in our lives is ideally the best way to maintain a bond and connect within the community. In fact, in collaboration with Sangeet Premees, we recently hosted a musical night at the cultural centre.

As mentioned above, the unanticipated increase in the costs of construction of the cultural centre were innumerable. Firstly, as you may have noticed, the main hall without any pillars looks splendid aesthetically. Furthermore, there is more space available now without any obstacles. Another factor for the unexpected rise in the expenses was that both the car park basements (Level 1 and Level 2) have fewer pillars than the usual, as seen in the other car parks of Spain. Hence this facilitates the parking of the cars of any size. Lastly, as per the Spanish law, a non-profit Association is not entitled to get any tax refund (16% iva) which we were not aware of, thereby making a huge dent in the funds. Nevertheless; we sailed through this and have emerged triumphant thanks to your understanding and cooperation.

Working in tandem guarantees success and remarkable results. More than three years of inputs, constant visits and supervision and the rapid implementation of the cultural centre should be credited to my current and the past committees including the youngsters committee. Together, they have expended so much of their time and energy towards the cultural centre. On the other hand, I appreciate you entrusting me regarding the initial donation at the time of purchasing the land, your advertisements in the directory and generous contributions every Diwali despite the recession. In turn, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of you as I hope I have lived up to your trust to serve you in this ever growing community. Therefore, it is imperative now more than ever that we should unite and stand. Jai ho!!!!

Cordially,
